The official return of Miss Newcastle has been announced, marking a significant moment for the North East and the revival of one of the region’s most iconic competitions — now redefined for a new generation.
Taking place in early summer 2026, Miss Newcastle once again becomes an official regional heat of Miss England, offering local women the opportunity to progress to the national final, where the winner goes on to represent England at Miss World, one of the most prestigious international pageants in the world.
The relaunch is led by Melissa Fiona Rae, a Newcastle-born former Miss England finalist and international Miss Eco competitor, whose own pageant journey began locally.
“Miss Newcastle is where it all started for me,” Melissa said. “Coming back as Regional Director is a full-circle moment — but this is about much more than my story. It’s about creating opportunities for women across the North East to believe in themselves and be seen.”
Beauty pageants, Melissa explains, have changed dramatically over the years. Today, they are platforms for confidence-building, leadership, charity involvement, and professional development — reflecting the realities and ambitions of modern womanhood.
Miss Newcastle’s relaunch places strong emphasis on inclusivity, individuality, and growth. Contestants will gain experience in public speaking, media engagement, personal branding, and community involvement — skills that extend far beyond pageantry and into careers, education, and entrepreneurship.
“This isn’t about fitting a mould,” Melissa added. “It’s about ambition, authenticity, and potential. Pageants today are about opportunity — and that opportunity starts the moment someone puts themselves forward.”
The competition will actively scout women across Newcastle and the wider North East, while also encouraging the public to nominate friends and family members who may not consider entering themselves.
“Some of the most powerful journeys begin because someone else believes in you,” Melissa said. “A nomination can be the first step towards something life-changing.”
Miss Newcastle’s return also represents a valuable opportunity for sponsors and partners, offering regional visibility, national association with Miss England, and global relevance through Miss World.
“Supporting Miss Newcastle means supporting women, visibility for the region, and a platform that reaches far beyond one night or one crown,” Melissa added.
Applications and nominations for Miss Newcastle 2026 are now open. No previous pageant experience is required, and eligibility requirements apply as per Miss England guidelines.
